Growing the Site

Before I get into things, I want to start with some good news.  Walkabout has been published by a new website called Real Travel Adventures.  I’m excited to add a fifth site to my publication credits and please check them out and see what else is of interest over there.

In a somewhat unrelated matter, as I’m sure you’ve noticed, there has not been an update in a while.  It seems I’m falling into the trap that claims so many new blogs and websites: an initial burst in readership followed by a slow, slow incline results in a lack of encouragement.  However, I do genuinely feel these entries and this story is one worth telling. So my problem then, is this:  how do I publish here on a regular basis while simultaneously working to get publication elsewhere.  What I may have to do is just trust the process and my writing, and let editors find me, rather than the other way around.  This combined with monetizing the site (adding advertisements) should give me the motivation I need to continue its growth.

However, it seems the hope of writing one entry a week is unrealistic considering my other time commitments.  While writing this blog, I am also attempting to start a production company, write a short film, write freelance for eHow, create an unrelated website from scratch, and work full time. Not to mention spend some of my spare moments with my wife.  However, I recently got promoted at work and with the promotion comes better hours and more money.  This should cut down on my freelance writing and give me a little more time to work on projects like this one.  As a result, I’m thinking it may be possible to update bi-monthly.  This should be sufficient to maintain readers and put out content at a reasonable rate.  As I figure out these details, I just ask that you bear with me the next few weeks.  Hopefully once it’s all put together, things will finally move at an appropriate pace.
